Our Happy Holidays

With Christmas, New Year’s, and both mine and my moms birthday, our family has been unbelievably busy! The much needed break has come to a close, and it’s time to get back into the swing of things. December is the busiest time of year for our family due to the holidays and birthdays it includes, and despite the cold weather, it’s one of my favorite times of the year! This year was different in many ways compared to years prior, but the magic of Christmas has finally returned. Never in a million years have I considered that I would be Santa, and although Audrey is too young to understand, it was a wonderful feeling getting to shower her with countless gifts and unconditional love during the holiday.  You could see the joy in her eyes as she tore through the paper to reveal her new treasures. You could tell  which gifts were her favorites, and it was amazing to watch! Let’s just say I’m  going to need a toy box in every room of the house, because Audrey must have received a whole toy store this Christmas. There are so many wonderful pictures, but here are a few of my favorites I’d like to share!

I have shared previously that I began making Audrey’s foods myself, and for Christmas I received a Baby Bullet which makes it so much easier! It purees the foods so fast and smooth, and comes with super convenient storage containers for both refrigerating and freezing. It also comes with an amazing cookbook that I can’t wait to use. Sometimes it’s convenient to just give Audrey store bought baby foods since you can buy out of season fruits and vegetables, and mixtures of different foods that you may not have handy. I haven’t had a bad experience with the store bought foods, I just prefer to make Audrey fresh fruits and vegetables that she seems to enjoy much more.

I ended 2017 and began the new year doing what I love most, which is spending time with family. Our New Year’s Eve consisted of playing games and eating – Who wouldn’t enjoy that? Audrey was officially born last year, which seems strange and bittersweet. I wish I could stop getting so worked up over Audrey growing up, but time is going by so fast and I just can’t keep up with it!

Audrey had her first drink of apple juice on my birthday! She really loves it, and has been drinking at least two ounces of it everyday. She’s teething, and cold apple juice seems to soothe her. She also really loves teething necklaces, and if she’s being held by someone wearing a necklace, she’ll try to suck on it. Everything that I’ve given her for teething seems to be effective to an extent. I don’t like the idea of giving Audrey medication, but seeing her in pain is worse, so if she’s in a great deal of pain I’ll give her some pain medication which always seems to help.

I began knitting in my spare time, and I really enjoy it! It gives my mind a rest and allows me to feel both relaxed and productive. I had quite a bit of free time during the holiday break, and I’d knit when Audrey was asleep or busy playing. I’m glad I decided to give it a try, because it’s a really good hobby for me. I won’t have as much time to do it with school starting back up, but I’m hoping I’ll still get a couple minutes during the day to continue. My first project was a headband for Audrey, which was a success! I’ve also made a scarf for my mom, and it turned out beautifully.  It’s time consuming, but it’s worth it in the end!

Audrey sat up in a cart for the first time, and she had a blast! She was pleasant throughout the shopping trip, and got to see the store from a new angle. I used to just put her car seat/carrier down in the cart (and still do occasionally), but going on 7 months old, she’s getting pretty heavy to carry around in the carrier. Since she’s sitting up sturdy, I figured it was time to put her in the front of the cart!

Speaking of sitting up sturdy, Audrey reached a new milestone on the first day of the new year. I put Audrey down in her crib on her back to play, and when I came back into the room five minutes later, she was sitting! Honestly, I was like a deer in the headlights. I just stood there shocked. I did manage to snap a picture before she fell back down, I just wish it were better quality so I could share it with you all! About ten minutes after this, I looked away for a few minutes until I felt eyes on me. I turned to Audrey’s crib, and she was on her knees, smiling at me! She was full of tricks, and I’m a proud mama!

I hope you all had an amazing holiday, and a happy new year! I’ll be updating again SOON!
